Maxims 1 – 19

1 – To the cynic, nothing is profound.

2 – If life was without struggle, it would not be living.

3 – Ambition is the death of Reason.

4 – Reason is the death of Ambition.

5 – A benevolent oppressor is impossible. A charismatic oppressor is common.

6 – Suffering, like love, can be compared quantitatively and qualitatively. But the comparison of suffering never leads to good outcomes.

7 – Nihilism is an exercise in futility.

8 – Optimism is a mindset, pessimism is a learned behavior.

9 – A given thing is only objectively good until one is asked to prove it.

10 – The pursuit of understanding often prevents understanding.

11 – Ignorance can be mistaken for empathy. Simply because one does not know of a topic, does not mean that they agree with or support the thoughts of another.

12 – It is the obligation of the strong to defend the weak.

13 – Mercy is the ultimate display of power.

13 – The arrogant sees himself as world-changing, yet rarely does more than maintain the status quo.

14 – Some works are to be regarded as tools, others as art. The difference is the fervor of the audience.

15 – Abstraction leads not to understanding, it only leads to the abstract.

16 – Evil, to exist, must in some form be enjoyable. If it were not, nobody would partake in it.

17 – One who claims to be ruled by reason is in truth ruled by ego.

18 – In this age, one is less likely to find another that holds true principles. Instead, one will find many who hold true to morals of popular convenience.

19 – One who lives without morals is disgusted by one who stands for their morals.
